Felicia and Dave were luckily still able to go ahead with their beautiful September wedding before lockdown restrictions were amplified. It was absolutely the perfect day, with fall colours at the height of their beauty, and the sincere joy between these two just radiating. The couple had originally met through mutual friends, and David had proposed while on vacation in Canmore during a walk by the river.

We began at Felicia’s parents’ home (I learned later that Felicia’s mother had worked with both my partner and his mother in education!) before heading off to the Holy Rosary Church in Osborne Village. Covid had certainly affected the look of the space, with caution tape across pews and guests in masks – but these are historical times, and I can’t help but think of the future, when couples are celebrating their 20-year, 30-year anniversaries, and they’ll have these photos, documenting the fact that despite the challenging times we’re in right now, love still prevailed. If you can overcome a pandemic and still get married, you’re on some pretty strong footing!

After a lovely ceremony, we headed to King’s Park, which was stunning and in full autumnal bloom. If you’ve seen any of our work, you’ll know how much we adore colour, and it truly was a stunning display of vibrance, under the perfect dramatic sky. We then moved on to the reception, held at the beautifully decorated Caboto Centre (I love seeing how versatile this space can be!). Guests were treated to an amazing meal, hilarious speeches, chocolate and some incredibly touching musical performances by friends and family, including a heartfelt rendition of Ed Sheeran’s duet with Andrea Bocelli, Perfect, from Felicia’s father and niece.

Vendors that helped make the day:

Makeup: Tara Beaucage, Beaux Beauty Bar
Photographers: Emily and Michelle, Stardust Photography
Groom’s attire: Moore’s
Rings: People’s
Bridesmaids’ dresses: David’s Bridal

The day was filled with laughs and tears (isn’t it always!) but there were extra special tears during the speeches. I love seeing mums get thanked really deeply for their strength and support to their children. A wedding day certainly is an opportunity to speak openly with your gratitude! As a photographer, it’s always an honour to hear people’s stories.

I’m still swooning at the navy and gold colour palette against explosions of fiery fall hues, as well as remembering how bright their family relationships shone with their speeches. The day was filled with laughter and tears, but there were some truly beautiful moments during these toasts, especially from David’s son during his best man toast to his dad. These two were an absolute joy to photograph, and I couldn’t be happier for them to be so lucky in love!
